Everything you need to know: Ranunculus

Ranunculus flowers are typically available from January through to May. You can expect to see ranunculus in your boxes in the Spring months. There are a few varieties such as Clooney, Butterfly and Romance. Some varieties are much more hardy than others, but like most flowers they generally require the same level of conditioning.

How they arrive

Ranunculus arrive in bunches of 50, on the odd occasion 20 to 30 stems.

They arrive with leaves and often another stem which will have a tiny bud attached.

How to conditon

Carefully unwrap the flower, stem by stem. Remove all of the green leaves. Snip the main stem away from the secondary stem.
Keep hold of the secondary stem in a smaller vase. These won’t flower like the main head but they are good for small arrangements like buttonholes.

Snip the stem at an angle as usual.

Ranunculus need support so make sure your vase or bucket is tall enough. Make sure there is enough space for the flower to open.

If any of the stems look quite closed still the day after conditioning, them pop into some warm water to encourage opening in time for your event. Keep an eye on them though!

Top tip: Cut a layer of chicken wire and place across the top of your bucket. Ranunculus can get tangled so this is a great hack to keep them upright with lots of space.

Please note we cannot guarantee you will receive ranunculus in your box.
