Tools you need to make your Flowers

There are a few essentials tools you’ll need to buy in order to create your wedding flowers. This obviously depends on what it is you’re actually making, but we’re going to break down some of the key pieces of equipment you’ll need.

1. Pot Tape

This is used to create grid lines for your table centres, securing chicken wire, and even tieing round your bouquets for extra hold. Think of it like thin gaffa tape!

2. Flower Tape

Also known as Stemtex or Stem Wrap. This is paper-like and ha sa light adhesive when stretched. You use this for tying your buttonholes and for wiring.

3. String

String is required for tying off your bouquets. Any variety will do.

4. Wire

Having some reel wire handy is worthwhile. These can be used to wire any floppy stems, but also for when making garlands.

5. Pins

Small pearl-headed pins are needed to secure your buttonholes. You can also use these to pin your bouquet ribbon in place, if you don’t want any length trailing.

6. Ribbons

Ribbon for your bouquets and buttonholes is a must for an elevated and professional finish. You can find a variety of ribbons online, whether on Etsy or Amazon. We particularly like this Minions of Craft silk ribbon. The 32mm is perfect for bouquets and the 7mm for buttonholes. Allow for around 1m per bridesmaid bouquet, 2 to 3m for bridal and 20cm for buttonholes.

7. Pin Holders

Pin holders (or floral frogs) are great for adding extra support when making table centres. The size of your metal pin holder will depend on the size of your vessel. You want the pin holder to fit snugly in the base of your vase.

8. Adhesive Tack

Floral adhesive is recommended when using your pin holders. It’s essentially waterproof blue tack. You add a ball to the bottom of your pin holder and fix it to the base of your vessel.

9. Chicken Wire

Chicken wire is a must for your table centres. It adds extra support for your stems. We recommend the plastic-coated chicken wire which is a lot softer on your hands. Chicken wire can be a bit lethal so be careful when using!

10. Bouquet Vases

Having some vases to hand for your bouquets is a must. You want to ensure they’re the right size, so that after all of your hard work, they don’t get damaged in any way. They’re very delicate once they’ve been made, so make sure they stay looking their best!
